Event description
Go inside the mind of a cancer researcher specializing in CAR-T cell therapy and the journal editor who helped get his research published.

About this Event

Join Dr. Eric Smith as he discusses using multiple myeloma as a model for CAR-T cell therapy for solid tumors, including the findings from his 2019 Science Translational Medicine study, “GPRC5D is a target for the immunotherapy of multiple myeloma with rationally designed CAR-T cells.”

Plus, hear from the journal editor’s, Dr. Lindsey Pujanandez, about the process of working with Dr. Smith on his manuscript from submission to publication.

Speakers

Eric Smith, MD, PhD, Director of Clinical Translation, Cellular Therapeutics Center, Memorial Sloan Kettering.

Eric Smith, MD, PhD, is the Director of Translational Science for the Cellular Therapeutics Center at MSKCC where he also serves an Assistant Member in the Center for Cell Engineering, and an Assistant Attending Physician on the Myeloma Service. His research focus is aimed at advancing the field of CAR T cell therapy, using multiple myeloma as a model. Several CAR T cell vectors stemming from his laboratory research are currently under clinical investigation.

Lindsey Pujanandez, PhD, Associate Editor, Science Translational Medicine (STM), American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS).

Lindsey Pujanandez is an Associate Editor at Science Translational Medicine and handles papers on infectious disease and immunology. She received her PhD in Immunology from The University of Colorado for her studies on the primary B cell response to HIV. She then completed a postdoctoral fellowship working to develop a universal influenza vaccine at the NIH.
