Drinks and Data! (Austin)
Thu, August 8, 2013, 6:30 PM – 9:00 PM CDT
It's time for another Drinks and Data!
This time, we have a special guest from San Francisco: Tobias Knaup, former Tech Lead for Airbnb, and co-founder of Mesosphere. For those of you unfamilar with Apache Mesos, it's a a cluster manager that provides resource isolation and sharing across distributed applications, or frameworks. It can run Hadoop, MPI, Hypertable, Spark, and other applications on a dynamically shared pool of nodes. The news of Mesos is spreading pretty fast. Over 400 people have joined the recently formed Bay Area Mesos Meetup Group.
Tobias is an expert in machine learning, natural language processing, and sentiment analysis -- and he primarily uses Rails. For those of you who constantly hear that Python is *the* Data Science language, come hear what Tobias has to say.
Also on hand will be Paco Nathan, author of the recent O'Reilly book Enterprise Data Workflows with Cascading, Paco is returning to Austin to offer an encore presentation of his Hands-on Intro to Data Science. If you have been thinking of signing up for his class, this may be your last chance for who knows how long -- unless you want to go to DC/Boston/NYC to catch the class.
We're trying out a new venue for this edition of Drinks and Data -- Brass House Austin. This is a great new jazz bar downtown with artisan drinks. Come check it out and let me know what you think.
Time to catch up and share what's new. Hope you can join us!
