Description

If you agree that art was by far your favorite class in school growing up, then why should there be a void of it in your adult life? Fortunately, we're here to help — located down a quiet street in Williamsburg is a library featuring tens of thousands of sketchbooks, which for one afternoon, will close early and transform into an artist-at-heart's paradise. Are you ready to get those creative artistic juices flowing again and sketch the afternoon away?

Join New York Adventure Club for an afternoon of art games and activities at the Brooklyn Art Library — home to The Sketchbook Project, this library contains the largest collection of sketchbooks in the world, with over 45,000 sketchbooks from over 130 different countries.

Our fun and casual art experience at this global sketchbook mecca will feature a host of different stations to spark your creativity and imagination, including:

  • Prompts in a Jar — Once you pull a sketchbook-themed prompt from the jar, bring it to life by sketching it!
  • Alphabet Landscape — A large piece of paper will be rolled out across the length of a table. Everyone will add an object in alphabetical order until the entire page is full with unique doodles
  • Synesthesia — Draw different smells, tastes, and sounds on slips of paper (ex. sour, sugary, bang!) and scatter them across the table. Now, get creative and try to sketch an image to represent that sensory experience!
  • Blind Contour Drawing — Once we place an object on the table, you'll have to sketch it without looking down at the page — no peeking!
  • Double Drawing — On one side of a piece of paper, draw an object using your dominant hand. Then, draw the same object on the other side using your non-dominant hand. It will feel weird, but practice makes perfect!
  • What Do You See in the Scribble? — The first person will draw a basic scribble line, and then the next person will try to make a picture out of it by filling in the spaces between the scribbles
  • Exquisite Corpse — After double-folding a piece of paper, start by drawing a head on the top section — when complete, hand it over to the person next to you so that they only see the black section right beneath your drawing. Everyone will now draw bodies — repeat the process, and finish with feet. Now, unfold each piece of paper to see what creative corpses you just created!

In the true down-to-earth drink n' draw spirit, water and ice-cold beer will be available to keep you hydrated throughout the experience!

As a thank you for coming out, you'll go home with your very own sketchbook! Each sketchbook helps finance and support the Brooklyn Art Library and The Sketchbook Project. And once you fill it up, you can send it back to The Brooklyn Library to be a part of the world’s largest collection of artist sketchbooks!

See you there!

*All drawing supplies will be provided, and all art can be taken home!
