Join DreamWorks’ recruiting team as they discuss their internship program and what they look for in animation reels when selecting interns and staff animators. The company overview will be followed by an artist talk by Head of Layout and SVA MFA Computer Art alumnus, Yong Duk Jhun.
Yong Duk Jhun is a well known cinematographer in the animation industry. He has been working at DreamWorks Animation since 2003 and has been a head of layout since 2005. He supervised the Layout team of Kung Fu Panda, Shrek Forever After, The Croods, and, most recently, Trolls.
His work is closely related to what a cinematographer does in the live action film industry; telling the story through the camera. In addition to being the head of layout, he also worked on over the Hedge and Father of the Pride as a layout artist.
Yong Duk Jhun used his cultural background and his life in Korea to inspire and influence the cinematography of Kung Fu Panda. The result created one of the most inspiring films of the year. After Kung Fu Panda, he worked as the head of layout on Shrek Forever After supervising the 3D (stereoscopic) film using cutting edge 3D technology from DreamWorks. On The Croods, Yong Duk collaborated with Roger Deakins, to create an organic and realistic feel of the film to deliver a precise balance of comedy and action. Currently, he is working as the head of layout for DreamWorks' first musical film, Trolls.
Yong Duk received a BFA in Graphic Design from the University of Seoul (1996) and a MFA in Computer Arts from the School of Visual Arts (2000). Prior to joining DreamWorks, he was a layout artist and animator at Big Idea Projection in Chicago. Yong Duk is a member of the Academy in Short Film and Animation Branch.
This event is open to all SVA students, alumni, faculty and staff.
Event co-hosted by SVA Career Development; BFA Animation; BFA Computer Art, Computer Animation, and Visual Effects; and MFA Computer Art.
