San Francisco, California
London, United Kingdom
My name is Maggie Nawyn. I am 14 years old. I started playing the piano when I was 10 and was accepted as a private student a year later at a local university. I love to perform and play for others. I want to start my own symphony (The Silver Slipper Symphony) here in Brigham City, Utah. The city will let me do so in the old Christensen Academy of Music and Dance (started by the family of Ballet West and San Francisco Ballet founder Willam Christensen) but only if the place is restored. A project that will cost two million dollars. If I can raise part of that money ($500,000.00), the city and other entities including a private arts foundation will work to match the rest of the cost.
The city has given me the opportunity to hold a fundraising concert on August 18, 2012—the only date they have available this year. The night is called Dreams: Remembrance and Hope. I have food vendors coming (Idle Isle fresh peach pie and Bella's). The concert will be guest hosted by Alex Boye and features actor and musician Marvin Payne and pianist Luke Hancock. Pianist Tyler Fox will perform (and me), and violinists Mitchell and McCall Andersen, singers Kramer Morton and Kati Klitgaard, and dancers Sandy and Annabelle Christensen and Ashley Manship. Professor Sandy Allen, who was one of Willam’s ballerinas, is also going to come and speak.
The time is from 7 until 9 p.m. with an intermission that will feature a silent auction. From 5 until 7 that evening, there will be an open house so the public can see the building. During the open house there will be a video presentation playing that will tell of the history of the building. Please come and participate in this special evening!
Donations and ticket price will go directly to Brigham City/Academy Square Foundation. For tax ID questions and information please contact:
