About this event

  • Event lasts 4 hours

'Drawn From Dust' - Creating flipbook animations from Blender particles by Roma Blay.Attendees need a laptop with Blender pre-installed onto it and a mouse.

Learn a thing or two about the world of 3D animation before creating a fun flipbook to take home! This is a beginner friendly exploration of Blender, the free tool that dominates the landscape of modern 3D animation and design.

We’ll break down the software into something beautiful - you can make some fun custom shapes and animate them before mixing things up into a printed flipbook.

After your creations are printed, we encourage your creative side to really shine by adding colour to your frames in the real world, a marriage of old and new styles of animation!

Connect and colour with others, then take home a piece of this workshop you can be proud of, you’re officially an animator.

Order of workshop (approximately 4 hours):

-Introduction to animation, how to make basic animations, formats and purposes of animation

-Flip book animation demos

-Introduction to Blender, what it is, use cases

-Combining flip book examples with blender through a simple ‘bubble merge’ exercise. On-screen follow along style tutorial.

-We will create approximately 48 frames of fun merging blobs

-We will render ‘image sequences’ of our blobs and put them into folders

-The image sequences will be printed and cut with the guillotine

-Any remaining time is used for colouring, shading, adding exciting hand-drawn elements to frames

-Everything is clipped together with the bulldog clips as take-home flip books
