Learn to tell your story through comics!

About this Event

In this workshop, comics artist Georgia Webber poses the question “Why do we write about ourselves?” and invites you to join her investigation. Over five weeks, we will dive into the craft of comics, the practice of drawing, and the art of self-exploration. Though this workshop will not require its participants to share any personal details, we will learn that when we explore our personal language of health and art, discoveries of the self inevitably emerge. Participants will engage in listening exercises, drawing games, and group discussion about translating our inner experience to the outer world, and how we value our creations. By the end of the course, we will all make a personal comic and print a small zine of our own design. No previous drawing or writing practice required, all levels welcome!

Georgia Webber is a comics artist, writer, and editor. Georgia is best known for her graphic memoir, Dumb: Living Without a Voice (Fantagraphics 2018), the chronicle of her severe vocal injury and sustained vocal condition which causes her pain from using her voice. This experience lead her to work as a Cranial Sacral Therapist, a meditation facilitator, and as an improvising musician, blending elements of healthcare, body awareness and creative expression within constraints. She has extended her love of the voice into the community with a project called MAW Vocal Arts, a live event series in Toronto. Georgia is currently collaborating with dancer, athlete and artist Vivian Chong to create Vivian's graphic memoir about losing her sight: Dancing After TEN (Fantagraphics 2020).
