About this event

This program is part of our Stretch Our Parks initiative, in partnership with the staff of Occoquan Bay NWR.

Enter the mysterious world of Dragonflies and Damselflies. They don’t flit about like butterflies. They’re hunters, feeding on insects like mosquitoes and flies, but they’re also prey for birds and spiders and fish. They begin their life cycle underwater, relying on clean water for their survival. When we see dragonflies, we’re seeing more than a colorful insect, we’re seeing a healthy ecosystem.

This will be a powerpoint presentation inside the Visitor Center.

Judy Gallagher has been an Audubon member for more than 25 years. She loves birding, but is most passionate about documenting insects and spiders and their behavior and environment through macro photography. Judy is a Certified Master Naturalist and a charter member of the Prince William Wildflower Society.

Occoquan Bay National Wildlife Refuge was established in June 1998 to provide habitat for migratory birds and endangered species. The refuge's diverse grassland, marsh and forest habitats attract a variety songbirds, raptors and waterfowl that depend on the area for food, nesting sites, and a place to rest.
