Drag Queen Story Hour for Kids with Autism & Other Special Needs
Event Information
Description
Drag Queen Story Hour is just what it sounds like—drag queens reading stories to children in libraries, schools, and bookstores. DQSH captures the imagination and play of the gender fluidity of childhood and gives kids glamorous, positive, and unabashedly queer role models. And because drag queens are professional, eye-catching performers, they are also the perfect ambassadors for helping kids to discover the magic of reading!
Children with disabilities are welcome at any DQSH event, but DQSH for Kids With Autism & Other Special Needs has the needs of children with ASD and other special needs in mind by design. Read more about what makes these events accessible at www.lineupthebooks.com/dqsh.
March's theme is SHAPES! Our featured queen, Harmonica Sunbeam will be reading 3 books: Not A Box by Antoinette Portis, Triangle by Mac Barnett, and Tangled: A Story About Shapes by Anne Miranda. We will make shape sticker art and play with colorful rubber bands to make shapes.
A social story will be emailed out the week of the event to all who register.
DQSH for Kids With Autism & Other Special Needs is sponsored by Drag Queen Story Hour, Line Up The Books, and The New York Public Library. It is the generous financial support of the NYPL that makes these programs possible.
