Event description

Description

Drag King artist Azangman will perform a new piece in relation to her work in the exhibition QueerArch.

Azangman’s work in the exhibition, Touching the Balls of Resurrected Drag Kings, was created after months-long research at the archive. As a drag king artist, she dives into the history of drag king performances in Korea but struggles with the lack of archived documentation and grapples with magazine advertisements and low-resolution images of the “legendary” performances floating on the internet. Often introduced as one of the first drag king artists in Korea (but knowing there were so many before her), Azangman tracked down drag kings of former generations and interviewed them in her work.

Drag King Azangman is a Seoul-based drag artist who studied fine art and history of art in London. She has been actively performing since the year 2017. She defines herself as a queer feminist and is a strong supporter of ‘Freeing the Nipple’ movement. Her performances touch various subjects, such as feminism, queerness, masculinity, misogyny, etc.

This event is in conjunction with the exhibition, QueerArch, curated by Kang Seung Lee and Jin Kwon. QueerArch was a winner of the 2019-2020 apexart International Open Call.
