Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune Comes to Life
Tue, February 7, 2017, 5:30 PM – 8:00 PM EST
Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune Comes to Life: a first person presentation by Ersula Knox
Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune was born a poor and second-class citizen in a rigidly segregated society yet she rose to the heights of achievement on the national stage and made a lasting impact on Florida history. She fought hard for her own education and for the education of other African American children and young adults. Despite Dr. Bethune’s work, gaps in education, graduation rates, and other measures still exist, especially in poor and urban areas. What can be done to improve the system so that all children have the best opportunity to learn? Participants can weigh in on that question after the presentation by Ms. Knox. Reception at 5:30 p.m.; program begins at 6:00 p.m.
