Event description
Come learn and laugh with us as Dr. Joel Fuhrman discusses how we can include nutrient-dense whole plant -based foods in our diets.

About this Event

Chronic diseases – obesity, type 2 diabetes, heart disease, cancer, stroke and autoimmune conditions – have been on the rise for both children and adults over the last four decades. These chronic conditions are associated with diet and other lifestyle behaviors, and can start in childhood, and may even begin during pregnancy. Children who suffer from chronic diseases have higher healthcare costs, experience more physician visits, more school absences, lower academic performance, and are more likely to suffer from low self-esteem.

Learn how to prevent these diseases through diet and healthy lifestyle choices during a presentation by Joel Fuhrman, M.D., a board-certified family physician and six-time New York Times best-selling author. Dr. Fuhrman coined the term “Nutritarian” to describe his eating style, which is built around a diet of nutrient-dense, plant-rich foods. You will learn the steps to transition to a plant based diet as a family and how to set your child up for long term success with healthy eating habits.

The presentation will also address how nutrition misinformation may end up as fact. Nutrition research is continually emerging with very exciting new results, making it hard to tell fact from fiction. Dr. Fuhrman will discuss the latest research and wade through the misinformation about different diets to help you understand what is right for your family. Don’t miss Dr. Fuhrman’s only visit to Seattle this year.

About the speaker

Dr Joel Fuhrman is a doctor and author who champions a micronutrient-rich diet. A former competitive figure skater, he suffered a serious injury which removed him from competition. Following the injury, alternative medicine therapy helped speed his recovery and led him to become a physician. His practice is based on his nutrition-based approach to obesity and chronic disease, also referred to as a nutritarian or restrictive diet. He has written several books promoting his dietary approaches; his book Eat to Live was on the New York Times bestseller paperback Advice & Misc. list for 90 weeks. He is a graduate from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, a board-certified family physician and serves as Director of Research for the Nutritional Research Foundation.

For over 25 years, Dr. Fuhrman has shown that it is possible to achieve sustainable weight loss and reverse heart disease, diabetes and many other illnesses using smart nutrition. In his medical practice, and through his books and television specials, he continues to bring this life-saving message to hundreds of thousands of people around the world.
