Event description

Description

Open house party and book launch for Dr Helen Pankhurst's new book at The Pankhurst Centre.

We're excited to be hosting this one-off event to celebrate the launch of Deeds Not Words: The Story of Women's Rights - Then and Now, by Helen Pankhurst, women's rights activist and great-granddaughter of Emmeline Pankhurst.

The Party will take place on the centenary of the Representation of the People Act, which gave some women over 30 the right to vote, and paved the way for universal suffrage.

Dr Pankhurst will speaking to guests and signing copies of her book in the house where the very first meeting of the suffragettes - led by her great-grandmother, her grandmother Sylvia Pankhurst, and great aunts Christabel and Adela Pankhurst - took place.

We will be celebrating the actual time of the People's Representation Act being passed at 8pm. There will be some brief speeches, and we will kick off a live Twitter storm.

Please come and join us on this historic occasion for a glass of wine, suffragette talk, and to be part of the launch of this amazing book, which charts how women's lives have changed over the last century, and offers a powerful argument for the way forward.

Copies of Deeds Not Words will be available for purchase on the night.
