Event description

Description

May 15th, 2018

Hey everyone,

Thank you to the 30 folks who have already bought tickets to the 30thScarlett Reunion on June 23rdat 1600. Based on the traffic to the Eventbrite web site over the last month (over 600 hits) we’re assuming a lot more folks are interested in attending, but simply haven’t bought tickets yet. Right now, we’re estimating attendance of around 80 to 100 people.

We’ve received a few questions since we first posted information about the reunion, so we’ll attempt to answer those for you now:

How do people know/find out about this event?

We’ve created a Facebook event page, an Eventbrite event page, we have a Facebook Messenger stream running, and we have a ticket link off the Dr. E. P. Scarlett home page. Otherwise, we’re relying on all of you to spread the word to friends and associates via your respective channels.

Why do I have to buy a ticket by midnight on June 15th?

We’re shutting down ticket sales a week before the reunion for two reasons. The main one is so we can get paid by Eventbrite before the event takes place, so that we can write a cheque to 1600. (Eventbrite’s pay-out policy is five working days.) We also want to be able to provide 1600 with final numbers so that they know how much of the bar to shut down. Right now, it’s looking like half the bar based on numbers.

If I don’t buy a ticket by the 15th, but then decide I want to go, can I get a ticket at the door?

Maybe. The capacity of 1600 is 200 people – any more than that and the bar exceeds fire code. If we have nearly 100 people with tickets, and the bar then fills with another 100 people who are just regular patrons, then 1600 will have hit capacity and it will be unable to allow anyone else into its establishment, until some of those inside decide to leave. As this is a Saturday night and there’s an early Stamps game on television (5 p.m. start), we’re assuming it will fill up by 7 p.m. The bar says it will be happy to sell tickets at the door if it’s not at capacity, we just can’t guarantee that will be the case.

What does my $25 go towards?

Along with guaranteeing your entrance, your ticket provides you with two drink tickets that can be used to purchase beer, house wine, or highballs (a value of $18 for two drinks). If you don’t drink alcohol, they will make you fancy non-alcoholic drinks. There will also be passed appetizers throughout the first couple of hours of the evening (a value of $7 per ticket). We are just finalizing the selection of appetizers that will be available, but we will ensure there are vegetarian and gluten-free options available.

What does the $2.50 Eventbrite fee go towards?

That fee goes directly to Eventbrite for managing the ticket sales and the money. It ensures that you all get electronic tickets right to your cell phones and it ensures that we get the funds paid to us so that we can pay 1600. If we end up with 80 people, Eventbrite will have made $200 off us for this service.

Should I eat before attending?

Probably. While appetizers will be provided as described above, this should not be considered a full meal.

What if I want more than two drinks?

After you use up your two drink tickets, it’s a cash bar for whatever you consume after that.

Should I drink and then drive home?

No. No, you shouldn’t.

Is 1600 easy to find?

Yes, it’s in Glenmore Landing, on the southwest corner of 14thStreet and 90thAvenue S.W. As of today, there is significant construction in the area, so the only access is off 90thAvenue. Just an FYI.

Are there any other activities planned for the evening?

Nope. Just show up, have some drinks, get caught up with old friends, and have fun.

Should I consult my old yearbook to remember which faces go with what names?

Probably.

Will those faces look the same after 30 years?

Probably not.

Who should I thank for all of this?

If it were not for Craig Sorette’s connections, it’s unlikely we would have been able to secure a bar on a Saturday night in late June for us all to get together. So, thank him. And thank Holly.

And thank you for coming. If you have any further questions, please don’t hesitate to ask.

Gary
