Event description
What the Science Tells Us: The Next Few Years Will Be The Most Important In Human History.

About this Event

Dr. Chip Fletcher is the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Professor of Earth Sciences at the School of Ocean and Earth Science and Technology (SOEST), University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa. He is also Vice-Chair of the Honolulu Climate Change Commission. His research focuses on Climate Change and impacts to island communities.

In his talk, Chip will discuss the current status and how the risk posed by climate change is much greater than generally portrayed by the media. He will make the case that we are facing a future of our own making: heat waves, accelerating sea level rise, superstorms, wildfire, and in all likelihood a global refugee crisis and generates a call to individual, community and policy action. Since the impact of climate change greatly impacts the next generation, he will discuss ways parents can support children to understand, cope with and take realistic and meaningful action.

This event is FREE for SPEAK member school parents, educators, and staff. A non-member fee of $15 will be collected at the door.
