About this Event

Click here to go to Bookstore1Sarasota's website.

Emily will be available at Bookstore1 for individual poetry-based Tarot readings from 4:30-5:30 pm and 6:30-7 pm. From 5:30-6:30 pm, she will read from her Tarot romance, Name Your Bird Without A Gun, and talk about creativity, storytelling and the Tarot. The reading will be interactive, so the group will receive a collective Tarot reading that will determine which excerpts Emily reads from her Tarot romance. Audience members will also leave with some tips and tricks for using the Tarot as inspiration, muse, coach, editor, etc. Serious whimsy and unexpected fortunes guaranteed!

Emily Carr writes murder mysteries that turn into love poems that are sometimes (by her McSweeney’s editors, for example) called divorce poems. Emily is passionate about the rediscovery of Mississippi poet besmilr brigham, the sexual politics of meat, the limits of Achilles’ honesty and the problem of Chaucer’s spring, un-posted love letters, cannibal chickens and a ship too late to save the drowning witch. After she got an MFA in poetry from the University of North Carolina-Wilmington, she took a doctorate in ecopoetics at the University of Calgary. These days, she’s Visiting Assistant Professor of Creative Writing at the New College. Her third collection of poetry is, whosoever has let a minotaur enter them, or a sonnet. It inspired a beer of the same name, now available at the Ale Apothecary. Emily’s Tarot Romance, Name Your Bird Without A Gun, is also now available.
