Event description

Crossfit 7 Hills is proud to announce it's first ever Crossfit event at located at the Downtown YMCA!

What is unique about this competition is that all proceeds will be donated to the Downtown YMCA’s Community Support Campaign (CSC). Every year the YMCA/Crossfit 7 Hills raises money to help local children in low-income neighborhoods and give them opportunities they may never get the chance to experience.

When you compete in this Crossfit event you are not only making yourself better but making our community better through programs focused on Youth Development, Healthy Living, and Social Responsibility.

*Youth Development -In 2018 the YMCA of Central Virginia administered over 25,000s hour of academic intervention to at risk youth in our local communities. Over 2,300 gained leadership and life skills through swim, sports and play.

*Healthy Living-Our Diabetes Prevention Program is teaching adults who have pre-diabetes how to transform their lifestyle so that they can stop diabetes in its tracks. This program aims to give participants hope and better health for their futures, at little to no charge for many participants.

*Social Responsibility- Research shows that programs like Yoga for Warriors at the Downtown YMCA can help individuals build physical, mental and emotional stamina to overcome barriers and obstacles caused by combat or non-combat trauma experiences. Participants become stronger physically, mentally and emotionally

Some benefits of our events:

This is a one of a kind type of competition. Unique location for each event. Fun, friendly atmosphere.

Competition Idea:

We believe fitness means being able to perform across a variety of different physical tests. Some of these tests athletes may have never tried before or don’t train on a normal basis. The idea was to create something unique that most Crossfit competitions don’t have the opportunity to test. So we have designed a competition that tests athletes for overall fitness.

Competition Format:

The games will incorporate a variety of different skill sets and be scaled to any level athlete. We will incorporate standard movements (bodyweight, core, weightlifting, running, rowing, swimming, etc...) in workouts that will be selected to test athletes in strength, endurance and skill. We will announce the 3 events that all competitors will participate in prior to the competition. We will hold a finals workout for the top 5 teams, though this may varies depending on number of teams in each division.

The following divisions will be available at this event:

Male/Male RX

Female/Female RX

Male/Male Novice

Female/Female Novice

Male/Male Masters 35+

Female/Female Masters 35+

RX: RX means you can do almost every "girl" workout RX. In some cases, weights and movement requirements will be more challenging than the "girl" workouts.

Novice: Novice is for athletes new to Crossfit, or competitions of it's kind. Expect weights and movements that are still challenging, but not as challenging as our RX division.

Throwdown Scoring and Rules:

We will provide very simple, clear scoresheets for the judges to use. These require that judges mark off reps and rounds at regular intervals. This makes it difficult for judges to miscount entire rounds or miss a large numbers of reps.

We will instruct judges to be vocal and clear when counting total reps, as well as missed reps.

When beginning a workout, make sure to talk with your judge. We choose workouts and movements that are as simple, while still making for an exciting competition. We want to make for the least number of scoring discrepancies. That being said, it is on the competitor to clearly conform to the standards of the movements involved.

Before beginning the workout judges will:

-Clarify how they will be counting aloud good reps, total reps, no reps, etc..

-Will have you perform a few reps of the movements to verify standards.

-Directly after the heat is over, the athletes will need to sign their scoresheet. Once your sheet is signed, we can only address errors in math or how the information was put into our scoring database. Athletes must look at the sheet itself; if there are any discrepancies, we will communicate with the head judge and discuss further action.

-Will be live the day of competition using pointbox.com

We will have a prize basket for our winners from our sponsors. RX winners can expect to receive larger prize packages than the Novice winners.

All athletes will receive a contest shirt, as well as a variety of samples and freebies from our sponsors.

The Throwdown will be open to all level athletes over the age of 16. We encourage athletes to be familiar with different fitness domains and have some exposure to CrossFit style workouts. .

We do not do refunds for our events, but will happily accept ticket exchanges if you can find someone to buy your ticket.

Please come prepared. It is May and could be cold or rainey. Some events will be held outdoors so dress accordingly.
