Description

The walking tour is open to the public and will take place up and down Main Street. The tour also includes a free trolley ride to Cornerstone Church in Portage Lakes (approx. 9 miles away) to see the former O'Neil's lifesize Nativity display.

While the walk and discussion is available to all participants, space on the trolley is limited to 60 riders. Please reserve your free tickets to ensure your seat on the trolley. Others are encouraged to drive their own vehicles and meet the group at Cornerstone Church (578 Killian Rd. Akron OH). The trolley will leave from Lock 3 Park in downtown during the walking tour and return all riders by 6pm.

The Downtown Akron Christmas History walking tour will inform and remind participants of our city's long, rich cultural past. Joanna Wilson the author of The Story of Archie the Talking Snowman and Akron's History of Christmas Attractions will lead the walking tour discussing the history of Akron's downtown retail department stores and the much-beloved downtown Christmas attractions. Hear the story of O'Neil's and Polsky's window displays, in-store walk through exhibits, the extravagant arrival of the store Santa Clauses, and more.
