Where Your Money Goes

Events are one of several ways the SBTS raises funds for making trail magic happen in the Lost Sierra. If you've ever ridden the iconic trails of Downieville, the Lakes Basin and Mills Peak near Graeagle, or our newest creation, Mount Hough Trail in Quincy, you know how much time and effort goes into making these world-class trails.

Our three events - the Lost and Found Gravel Grinder, the Downieville Classic and Grinduro - are not only filled with challenges, adventure, camaraderie and a huge post-event celebration, but part of your entry fee also helps employ local Plumas and Sierra County residents full-time, working to establish a more sustainable recreation-based economy.

Participating in an SBTS event is more than just riding your bike and having a good time; it's helping create some of the best trails in America while helping communities in the Lost Sierra thrive, keeping the dream of wholesome mountain living alive and well. Thanks for your continued support and participation, and see you trailside!

Riders participating in the Lost Sierra Triple Crown must indicate during registration of each event they wish to take part by clicking a box during the registration process. Racing age will be determined based on age as of December 31, 2017. FOR MORE INFORMATION SEE BELOW.

Announcing the Lost Sierra Triple Crown – A Premier Knobby Tire Challenge

For riders seeking the ultimate challenge of both fitness and bike handling skills, the Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship introduces a new three-event series for 2017 called the Lost Sierra Triple Crown. Consisting of the Lost & Found 100-mile Gravel Grinder on June 4, the Downieville Classic Cross-Country on August 6 and the Grinduro on October 10th, the Lost Sierra Triple Crown will promise to be a fun and challenging endeavor for all participants.

The Lost Sierra Triple Crown will be based on the same points system used in the Downieville Classic All-Mountain World Championships, and will be applied to placing based on the three aforementioned events across 14 categories. To be eligible, riders must register for the Lost & Found 100-mile event, the Downieville Classic Cross-Country (All-Mountain participants are also eligible) and the Grinduro – a unique event combining a gravel grinder with an enduro. Triple Crown winners will be announced at Grinduro on October 8th.

Riders can use any bike they wish for the three different events; the same bike is not required. For those not familiar with the three events, a cyclocross bike with disc brakes and tubeless tires has been very successful at the Lost & Found and Grinduro, while a capable hardtail or lightweight full-suspension bike with durable tires works best for Downieville.

Riders participating in the Lost Sierra Triple Crown must indicate during registration of each event they wish to take part by clicking a box during the registration process. Racing age will be determined based on age as of December 31, 2017.

Registration for the Downieville Classic opens April 2nd while registration for Grinduro opens on April 23rd. Both events are expected to sell out quickly, so participants are encouraged to mark their calendars and register on the opening dates. There is no registration offered for all three Triple Crown events at one time, participants must register individually for each event.

"Stick to the Track"
Some riders seem to be all too familiar with racing events like Megavalanche, and other big mountain enduros, where the fastest man or woman down the mountain, regardless of the route, is crowned champion. This type of racing became a problem in the 2010 Downieville Classic, as we had several riders using what we like to refer to as "Hillbilly Lines". We are officially ending this method of racing, by placing course marshals in known “cutter” areas. Riders that do not stick to the track will be disqualified.

REGISTRATION FEES INCLUDE:
100% of the race registration proceeds benefit the Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship (www.sierratrails.org), trail maintenance program. Fees include; insurance, accurate computerized timing, EMT support, aid stations with refreshments, catered lunch, shuttle service from Downieville to Sierra City and Packer Saddle following the event, event socks, pint glass filled with cold beer at the finish, grab bag- properly equipped, Downieville School kitchen rental, Downieville Community Hall rental, Sierra City Community Hall rental, Sierra County Special Use fees, US Governmentt Special Use fees, including surveys of reproductive pattern of California Spotted Owl territory S1057 / Northern Goshawk territory D53T13, and a whole mess of porta-potties, garbage cans and recycling receptacles. THIS IS NOT A NORBA EVENT. YOU DO NOT NEED TO PURCHASE A MEMBERSHIP OR ADDITIONAL INSURANCE.
