Event description

Description

Down in Mississippi follows three college students who travel down to Mississippi to register black voters in the summer of 1964. Featuring the talents of C.W. Robertson, Sonny Linn, and Jillian Barron this play celebrates a movement that gave birth to the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965.

The 1964 Freedom Summer Project was designed to draw the nation’s attention to the violent oppression experienced by Mississippi blacks who attempted to exercise their constitutional rights, and to develop a grassroots freedom movement that could be sustained after student activists left Mississippi.”
