Event description
Right behind our Pirate Supply Store, 826 Valencia will host a reading of six local authors on how they use their art to resist.

About this Event

At 826, we believe writing is agency. By amplifying underrepresented voices we celebrate and defy. In a time when our own communities are being diminished by the systems of power, it’s more important than ever to organize around these people and highlight them even further. That’s why we are delighted to bring our community together to resist through art, oppose with inspiration.

On Saturday, October 5, from 10 am to noon, we invite you to “Doughnuts and Dialogue: Art as Resistance,” a reading featuring works across genres and celebrating identity. We will hear from students, volunteers, staff, and other community members. Our readers will express how they take care of themselves in tough times through creation and play. We’ll have delicious coffee and treats provided by Estas Manos and Marla Bakery, with a raffle for 826 items.

At the heart of 826 Valencia’s educational model is the belief that great leaps in learning happen when students receive individualized support, which is where you come in. Volunteers make our mission possible. We are excited to not only invite you to this event but also to continue to be part of our community by supporting our young authors as volunteers. Bring your friends, family, coworkers, former (or current) pirates, and curious creatures.
