Dos Idiomas Una Comunidad
Wed, May 17, 2017, 6:00 PM – 8:30 PM EDT
In collaboration with The Center for Artistry and Scholarship, we present a screening of "Dos Idiomas, Una Comunidad / Two Languages, One Community." A film that explores the racial and political challenges of bilingual education in the United States and the role that Margarita Muñiz played within the dual bilingual language program in the city of Boston and the state of Massachusetts. The film begins by shedding light on the fight for better bilingual education programs during the Boston Public Schools’ desegregation case of the 1970’s and introduces Margarita as an advocate for the children who depended on it to succeed.
There will be a panel discussion following the event where filmmakers and additional panelists will answer questions. One of the featured panelists will be the CEO of Inquilinos Boricuas en Acción, Vanessa Calderón-Rosado.
