Description

The 24th Annual Door County Lighthouse Festival includes boat excursions and guided land-based tours spotlighting 11 historic Door County, Wisconsin lighthouses. This much-anticipated festival gives visitors access to lighthouses that aren’t typically open to the public, including Chambers Island, Plum Island and Sherwood Point lighthouses.

LAND-BASED TOURS
A) Door County Trolley Lighthouse Tour Departs Door County Trolley Depot, Hwy. 42, Egg Harbor & Door County Maritime Museum, Sturgeon Bay $69 per person; $64 per child (12 & under) – Package includes lunch. Admission to one Maritime Museum site is included in this package. Offered in conjunction with Door County Trolley. Capacity: 29 per tour. The six-hour tour spotlights five mainland-accessible lighthouses: Eagle Bluff, Cana Island, Baileys Harbor Range Lights, Sherwood Point and Sturgeon Bay Canal Station lights. Tour departs from Door County Trolley Depot in Egg Harbor and Door County Maritime Museum in Sturgeon Bay at 9 am both Saturday and Sunday, June 10-11, 2017.

B) Ghost Tour Departs Door County Maritime Museum, Sturgeon Bay $34 per person – Package includes admission to one Maritime Museum site. Offered in conjunction with the Door County Trolley. Capacity: 29 per tour. This 90-minute trolley tour features stories of the area’s spirited maritime past. Includes stops at the Sherwood Point Lighthouse and Sturgeon Bay Canal Station lights. Tour departs from the Door County Maritime Museum in Sturgeon Bay at 7 pm both Friday and Saturday nights, June 9-10, 2017.

C) Naturalist-Narrated Tour Departs Door County Maritime Museum, Sturgeon Bay $69 per person – Package includes box lunch (choices). Offered in conjunction with Door County Nature & Travel Tours. Capacity: 20 per tour. This small group tour is six and a half hours long and includes stops at Sherwood Point, Sturgeon Bay Canal Station, Cana Island, Eagle Bluff and Baileys Harbor Range Lights with drive-by of a 6th light. Departs from Maritime Museum in Sturgeon Bay at 9 am both Friday and Sat., June 9-10, and returns at 3:30 pm.

BOAT EXCURSIONS

D) Lakeshore Lighthouse Cruise Departs the Downtown Baileys Harbor Municipal Dock (across from Town Hall) $49 per person – Admission to one DC Maritime Museum site is included in this package. Offered in conjunction with Shoreline Scenic Cruises. Capacity: 22 per tour. This tour includes seeing the Cana Island Lighthouse, the historic “Bird Cage” (old Baileys Harbor Lighthouse) and the Baileys Harbor Range Lights. The tour will also cruise by the location of several shipwrecks from the 1800s and we may be able to see one from the boat. The tour lasts 2 hours and will be offered three times on Friday, June 9, at 10 am, 1:30 pm and 4 pm; Saturday, June 10, at 10 am and 4 pm; and Sunday, June 11, 10 am and 1:30 pm.

E) Chambers Island Tour Departs Fish Creek dock aboard the Quo Vadis $68 per person – Package includes admission to one DC Maritime Museum site. Offered in conjunction with Fish Creek Scenic Boat Tours. Capacity: 50 per tour. It is still uncertain as to whether bus transportation from the dock on Chambers Island to the lighthouse will be available. If it isn’t, access to the lighthouse will require a 3-mile round trip docent-led hike across the island to the historic lighthouse. Lighthouse caretakers will meet the tours as they arrive at the house. There you will be able to soak up the amazing view and climb to the lantern room platform. Note: Good hiking shoes recommended and participants should be in good enough shape to handle the hike in the allocated time (if needed). Time on the island will be approximately 21/2 hours (total time 4 hours). Tours will leave the Fish Creek dock aboard the Quo Vadis on Saturday, June 10, at 9 am, 11:30 am and 2 pm. Sunday tours leave at 9 and 11:30. Please visit the museum’s website (www.dcmm.org) for updates relating to parking instructions in Fish Creek and any on-island transportation changes. Vending is not available.

F) Death’s Door Tour Departs Gills Rock dock $49.50 per person – Admission to one DC Maritime Museum site is included in this package. Offered in conjunction with Shoreline Charters. Capacity: 14 per tour. Take this intimate narrated tour (total time 90 minutes) aboard the 14-passenger Shoreline Charter into Death’s Door, some of the most history-rich straits on the Great Lakes. Highlights include water views of the Range Lights and the abandoned Coast Guard Station on Plum Island and then to eerie Pilot Island with its bare trees and deteriorating lighthouse. Tour departs from Gills Rock at 10:30 am and 2:00 pm on Saturday and Sunday, June 10-11.

G) Plum Island Tour Departs the Shoreline Charter dock in Gills Rock $69.50 per person – Admission to one DC Maritime Museum site is included in this package. Offered in conjunction with Shoreline Charters. Capacity: 14 per tour. This 5-hour tour is a rare offering, permitting visitors onto Plum Island for a guided tour by members of the Friends of Plum & Pilot Islands. Only 4 tours are being allowed on the island which is under the authority of the US Fish & Wildlife Service. The Friends require the signing of a liability waiver to take this tour which will be provided at the time of purchase and must be brought to the dock. Tours leave the Shoreline Charter dock in Gills Rock at 9 am and 12:30 pm on Saturday and Sunday, June 10-11. Vending is not available. NOTE: This walking tour covers more than 2 miles round trip and requires good footware. Shorts are not recommended. LIMITED TICKETS REMAINING. PLEASE CALL 920-743-5958 to order.

H) Rock Island/Death’s Door Tour- SOLD OUT Departs Gills Rock dock $89.50 per person – Admission to one DC Maritime Museum site is included in this package. Being offered in conjunction with Shoreline Charters. Capacity: 14 per tour. This one-time tour leaves Friday, June 9, at 9 am and will last between 5-6 hours depending on conditions. This cruise will leave from Gills Rock and proceeds to Rock Island where passengers can disembark and walk the one-mile trail to the lighthouse. Bring a box lunch to enjoy while on the island or on the boat. Return trip will provide close-up views of the Plum Island Range Lights and the Pilot Island Lighthouse.

I) Sail Door County Schooner Cruise Departs from the Sister Bay Marina $65 per person – Admission to one DC Maritime Museum site is included in this package. Offered in conjunction with Sail Door. Capacity: 22 per tour Set sail into yesteryear on a 19th century tall ship to Peninsula State Park's Eagle Bluff Lighthouse. Join the crew in hoisting a halyard or sit back and listen to wind and wave aboard the 65-foot schooner, the Edith M. Becker. Local lore and history of the surrounding waters and water views of the Eagle Bluff Lighthouse will complete this 2.5-hour sailing adventure as you view rocky shores, islands, caves, and majestic bluffs. Beverages will be served by the crew and hear the cannon thunder as they strike sail and salute the end of a perfect cruise. Friday, June 9 at 1:30 and 6:30; Saturday, June 10 at 9:30 and 1:00; Sunday, June 11 at 9:30.

J) Sturgeon Bay Area Fireboat Cruise Departs Door County Maritime Museum, Sturgeon Bay Tickets are available, before boarding, at the DC Maritime Museum. Snacks and refreshments are available and rest rooms are provided on the boat. Held in conjunction with Legend Cruises. Capacity: 127 per tour These 90-minute narrated tours on Sturgeon Bay depart from the dock adjacent to the Door County Maritime Museum and cruise to either the Sherwood Point Lighthouse or the Sturgeon Bay Canal Station lights. Cruises are aboard the retired City of Chicago fireboat, Fred A. Busse. Tours leave at 10:30 am and 12:30 pm each day, Friday to Sunday, June 9-11. K) Sturgeon Bay Area Fireboat – Sunset Dessert Cruise Departs Door County Maritime Museum, Sturgeon Bay $35 per person; $25 for children 12 & under – Admission to one DC Maritime Museum site is included in this package. Held in conjunction with Legend Cruises. Capacity: 75 per tour. Enjoy a picturesque cruise of Sturgeon Bay culminating with a water view of the illuminated Sherwood Point Lighthouse aboard the historic City of Chicago fireboat, Fred A. Busse. Great photo opportunity. This narrated 90-minute tour also includes a close-up view of Bay Shipbuilding, one of the largest shipyards on the Great Lakes. Tours include complimentary desserts with other refreshments and snacks available for purchase. Tours leave Friday, June 9, and Saturday, June 10 at 7:30 pm from the dock adjacent to Door County Maritime Museum.
