Aaron is a backpacking nutrition expert with over 20 years of experience as a registered dietitian and backpacker. In this class, she’ll walk you through the steps of understanding how to fuel your body properly on-trail and avoid hitting the wall.
What does it mean to hit the wall?
Hitting the wall is a common issue for hikers that haven't fueled their bodies well. It occurs when you do not consume adequate carbohydrates which leaves you feeling exhausted, moody, and/or confused. Fortunately, with some proper planning and plenty of snacks, you can easily avoid that awful, burnt-out feeling.
During the talk, you’ll learn:
- All about hitting the wall: what is it, how can you recognize it, and why does it happen?
- Backpacking metabolism basics: carbs, protein, and fat, oh my!
- How to determine your carbohydrate and calorie needs to avoid bonking
- How to stay hydrated to improve performance and recovery
- And more!
