Chicas Latinas de Sacramento is excited to announce our 2019 shoe-drive for a Sacramento area elementary school!

When we ask school staff members what the students are most in need of when starting the new school year, we are often simply told, “shoes.” Shoes that fit and shoes in working condition… free of holes and torn soles. Back-to-school shoes, a basic need to most, are a luxury item to these children.

For that reason, Chicas Latinas members are hosting a shoe-drive and are asking the community to support "Starting off on the Right Foot," and rally together in an effort to provide shoes for these students as they enter into the new school year. Shoes must be NEW and should fit 5-12 year old children, boys and girls.

Deadline for monetary and NEW SHOE donations is September 1, 2019 ~ 100% of monetary donations will go towards the purchase of new shoes for students at Glenwood Elementary School.

Please share this event and consider asking your colleagues, friends, and family to donate to provide a pair of shoes, or more. We have 100% confidence we can collect and provide over 600 pairs of shoes, with your help!

About “Starting Off on the Right Foot”

During the spring and summer months, Chicas Latinas de Sacramento holds a community donation-drive, to collect NEW shoes for the children at our sponsored school; this year, Glenwood Elementary School. New shoe and monetary donations will be accepted at any of our drive events, additionally monetary donations will be accepted online and by mail. Chicas Latinas will host a “Starting Off on the Right Foot” distribution event at our sponsored school in early October, where bilingual volunteer and media opportunities will be available.

• 2014 – Hagginwood Elementary: Distributed 100+ pairs
• 2015 – Woodbine Elementary: Distributed 400+ pairs
• 2016 – Del Paso Heights Elementary: Distributed 500+ pairs
• 2018 – D.W. Babcock Elementary: Distributed 500+ pairs

About Glenwood Elementary

Households in this Sacramento neighborhood are primarily lower-income. Over 60% of the students identify as hispanic/Latino and 93% of the entire student-body are considered socioeconomically disadvantaged.

Glenwood Elementary is part of the Robla Elementary School District.

We need to collect over 500 pairs of shoes in order to provide every child at Glenwood Elementary School with a new pair of shoes. Please consider supporting Chicas Latinas’ 2019 shoe drive, and help send Sacramento area children back-to-school on the right foot!
