About the Program

This presentation will describe the law and procedures for filing TROs in San Diego County. We will discuss the process and procedures for applying for TROs, applicable codes, burdens of proof, and for obtaining restraining orders after hearings.

About the Speaker

A graduate of California Western School of Law, Laura Handler has been working for San Diego Volunteer Lawyer Program as a domestic violence legal advocate since 2006, providing services to hundreds of victims of domestic violence, elder abuse, sexual assault, and other forms of harassment. She provides these services as the staff attorney for the San Diego Volunteer Lawyer Program's Vista Courthouse Temporary Restraining Order Clinic. Ms. Handler has also provided community outreach educational trainings throughout San Diego County at the San Diego YWCA, Child Welfare Services, and at annual Continuing Education attorney trainings.
