BOOKING HAS NOW CLOSED

As part of Domestic Abuse Awareness Week 2017, SOS Domestic Abuse Projects is offering a series of free workshops to increase knowledge and awareness of domestic abuse in Southend.

Domestic Abuse - The Impact on Children is a half day workshop, aiming to increase knowledge and understanding of the short and long term impact domestic abuse can have on children. It will also look at how a perpetrator can use children to control their victims and the impact this can have on the victim's ability to parent. We will also explore the work that Fledglings - based at SOS Domestic Abuse Projects - undertakes to support recovery for affected families, as well as how to refer to the service.

By the end of the session participants will:

  • Have increased understanding of the short term effects of Domestic Violence on Children, Young People and Families.
  • Have increased understanding of the long term effects of Domestic Violence on Children, Young People and Families.
  • Gain greater understanding of how a perpetrator uses children to control their victim and how this can affect the victim’s parenting abilities.
  • Understand the role of Fledglings Child and Family service and the referral pathway.

This session is aimed at practitioners with some previous training on domestic violence, such as children's centre staff, voluntary sector staff, teachers, students with placements in early years settings, health visitors and social workers.

This is a free workshop but non-attendance will incur a fee of £50. Attendees must work or volunteer within Southend Borough.
