As part of Domestic Abuse Awareness Week 2017, SOS Domestic Abuse Projects is offering a series of free workshops to increase knowledge and awarenes of domestic abuse in Southend.

Domestic Abuse - The Emotional Wounds is a half day workshop, exploring the psychological impact of domestic abuse on families. It will be an opportunity to learn how domestic abuse can have a profound impact on how a victim is able to function socially, even after leaving the relationship. It will also look at the adverse effect domestic abuse can have on a child's development.

By the end of the session, participants will:

  • Be able to define emotional and psychological abuse.
  • Recognise how this form of abuse affects men, women and childrne.
  • Have an understanding of the strategies and coping mechanisms victims use.
  • Widen the knowledge and understanding of responses to victims of emotional and psychological abuse and the process of change.
  • Understand how to offer support, demonstrating key listening skills and empathic responses.

This session is for counsellors, support workers and social workers who are likely to work closely with families affected by domestic abuse.

This is a free workshop but non-attendance will incur a fee of £50. Attendees must work or volunteer within Southend Borough.
