About Us

Delta Sigma Theta is a national public service sorority of over 250,000 predominantly African American college educated women. The Sorority was founded on January 13, 1913, by twenty-two students at Howard University in Washington, D.C., who emphasized sisterhood, scholarship, and service. OEBAC has been serving Oakland and surrounding communities for over 40 years. Directly supporting and in conjunction with our national directives, OEBAC uses its collective strength to promote academic excellence; provide scholarships; provide support to the underserved; educate and stimulate participation in the establishment of positive public policy; and highlight issues and provide solutions to problems in our community.

Case for Support

OEBAC strives to prepare youth living in the Oakland community to be healthy, ambitious, and confident leaders. We meet this goal through the implementation of programs and projects designed to support the development of behaviors and skills that will foster academic excellence. Now more than ever, it is critical to uplift essential educational supports to mitigate the disparities that exist within the education system and the many challenges that have been exacerbated due to COVID. Contributions to these efforts will sustain monthly wellness and civic engagement activities, and college and career readiness opportunities in our local community and beyond.

By providing sufficient scholarship assistance, we can enable greater success in college, providing backing for deserving students who want to graduate with their degree and give back to society. OEBAC prides itself on giving upwards of $10,000 yearly in scholarships. Students who attend school in the Oakland Bay Area with a GPA of 3.00 or better are eligible to apply for these scholarships.

The 2020 scholarship recipients are attending a variety of schools ranging from Community College to Public and Private Universities and Colleges. As more students are striving to have post-secondary educational experiences, we are asking for support in helping these scholars achieve their goals with as little student loan debt as possible.
