Event description

Description

Dojo Consortium

We are excited to be bringing back the Dojo Consortium Gathering for another year!

Join the growing organizations in the Dojo consortium along with guest speakers for 2-days of sharing and learning around the topics of coaching and growing Dojos and moving towards a culture of continuous learning. Whether you are new to Dojos or have been running yours for a few years, this gathering is intended to help us all grow and learn.

Format

This will be a 2-day event. We will be keeping the format interesting. Expect the following formats for sharing and learning:

  • Invited speakers delivering sessions with years of experience coaching across domains to help us expand our skills
  • Small, breakout workshops working with experienced coaches on specific skills you can use in your dojos
  • Local / Consortium speakers delivering sessions sharing their tips and experiences
  • Open-space format for dynamic topic generation and exploration
  • Informal Mixer

Speakers

Speakers are finalized. We are excited to announce the confirmed speakers:

  • Mary and Tom Poppendieck - authors of Implementing Lean Software Development - From Concept to Cash, Mary and Tom have been thought leaders in the software space for years.
  • Woody Zuill - No Estimates and Mob Programming master as well as just a great teacher, Woody will be joining us for the second year in a row. Woody will have a workshop available before the conference - https://www.eventbrite.com/e/mob-programming-two-day-workshop-with-joe-yoder-and-woody-zuill-tickets-93019017385
  • April Mills - April was in charge of large transformation work at Intel and brings a depth of experience at the executive level.
  • Llewellyn Falco - Technical coach extraordinairre, Llewellyn not only teaches and coaches technical practices, he is deep in the Domaing Driven Design space
  • Leah Cunningham - Leah is not only a great coach but she also brings a great perspective on maintaining health and avoiding coach burnout
  • Jeremy Kriegel - UX teacher, coach, and doer - Jeremy has done some amazing user and customer experience work. Jeremy is real excited to join us and wants to help us all understand how to use sketching and visualizations with our teams (and coach it).
  • Special guest from Athena project at Verizon - Verizon used their Dojo last year to provide an amazing opportunity to a diverse group of people that were changing careers. Hear their first hand story on the impact the dojo had on them.

All invited speakers will have real world industry experience teaching and teaching to teach / coach across a variety of domains (product, tech, academia, etc).

The speakers will not be just about a niche topic but rather about how all of these ideas come together. Expect perspectives on coaching, product, technology, and leading organizations at an executive level.

Workshops

Some of our speakers have agreed to offer workshops prior to the conference. These workshops are a separate fee from the conference but will definitely enhance your experience.

We are excited to announce that Woody Zuill and Joe Yoder will be offering their 2-day mobbing workshop on the Monday and Tuesday before the event. More information can be found here - https://www.eventbrite.com/e/mob-programming-two-day-workshop-with-joe-yoder-and-woody-zuill-tickets-93019017385

Tours

A few of the local dojos have offered up tours of their space. Here is the current list (Note - this is separate from the event, travel is to be coordinated on your own)

  • Verizon - Tuesday Dojo Tour. Contact Bryce Calton

Attendees Traveling In From Out of Town

We are expecting a large portion of attendees from out of town and will do our best to accomodate.

HOTEL

The hotel for the event will be the Aloft Dallas Downtown. There will be a group rate of $169, though parking will be $16 / night. The rate includes breakfast if you would like.

Book your stay here - Book your room for Dojo Consortium Conference

While the hotel is less than a mile from the conference location, it is not the safest walk because of traffic. We will have a shuttle making 2 or trips per day from the hotel to the conference center

Interested in Speaking?

If you are attending and are interested in also leading an informal session (15-minute talk), please submit your idea here - https://forms.gle/6a54S7oWxqdJz9AD9

Note - all sessions not chosen will immediately go into the open space so your great idea will get heard!
