Our Speaker- Romberto A. Escalona, Branch Banking and Trust Co. (BB&T)
Romberto Escalona is Vice President of Branch Banking and Trust Company (BB&T) responsible for international business development for the State of Florida. He has over 32 years of banking experience, managing international bank operations with a focus on Trade Finance.
Romberto began his career in 1979 when he joined First National Bank of Greater Miami as a retail banker. In 1978 Congress, had passed the International Banking act of 1978. The act allowed foreign banks to establish offices in the United States for engaging in international trade finance. As new foreign institutions established offices in Florida and New York, the demand for international bankers encourage him to move to the bank’s International Department as a Letter of Credit Documentary Examiner. The next ten years brought significant growth to Florida which became and continues to be the U.S. gateway for international trade with Latin American and the Caribbean. Romberto Joined Lloyds TSB Bank plc (f/k/a/ Lloyds Bank International) in 1982 as the Head of the Letter of Credit Dept. In 1993 he was asked to manage the bank’s Miami Operations, a position he would hold until July 2009. In 2012 Romberto joined Branch Banking and Trust Company as a Business Development Officer in the Bank’s International Division.
