5 steps to starting a business in Dubai and The Middle East

Are you interested in doing business in Dubai? Have you ever wondered what it takes to do business in the MENA Region? Want to learn about the countries in the MENA Region? Join us at Coinvention, in Philedelphia on Saturday, Sept 21, 2019, for an overview of what it takes to set up a business in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE) as a whole and how you can leverage that to scale your business into the Middle East North Africa (MENA) Region.

The learning will be active and interactive and be lead by MENA business experts and Columbia University and UNH School of Law professors, Samson Williams and Maureen Murat.

Professor Samson will provide you the first hand perspective of being an American in MENA, doing business in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Mauritius, Ethiopia and beyond. Professor Murat will provide unique insights into the opportunities and realities of doing business in MENA as a woman entrepreneur as well as discuss some regulatory matters everyone should be aware of.

Class size is limited.

If you are Startup Founder, Serial Entrepreneur or business person looking to understand the administrative, technical, business and cultural realities of doing business in the MENA region, then this course is for you.


COURSE MATERIALS PROVIDED

Every student will receive an overview of what the business environment in MENA looks like, with special focus on Dubai; as well as an overview of business formation laws as of September 2019 and contact information for follow-up with the Professors for questions after the masterclass.


MINIMUM LEARNING OUTCOMES

  1. Get a sense of what life and business is really like in Dubai and the MENA Region.

  2. Checklist of administrative items needed to open a business in Dubai.

  3. Understanding of the cultural realities of working in a region that is “high context.”

  4. Recommendations for travel, transportation and government entities to get in contact with to position your business in the best possible place to be successful.

  5. Addressing stigma and biases in an open and frank conversation, to get beyond the common portrayal of MENA and into the opportunities of tapping into the largest growing economy in the world.

COURSE DESCRIPTION

This is an introduction to life and business in Dubai, United Arab Emirates and the MENA Region as a whole. Given the state of relations between the US and emerging economies, many people have questions about what it really means and what it really takes to do business in Dubai and beyond. This session is for individuals who are looking to understand the place of startups and entrepreneurs in a global ecosystem, in particular Dubai.

Think of this course as international business consulting minus the high fees. If you are looking to take a deep dive into the world of Middle East and GCC business and walk away with actionable next steps that can move your organization forward, then this course is for you.

He is Principal Consultant at Axes and Eggs and serves on the Board of the Crowdfunding Professionals Association (www.cfpa.org); with over 15 years of advising Fortune 50 companies and startups.
