Description

Start-ups, entrepreneurs and executives from established local tech companies are invited to a dynamic session on doing business in the US.

Attendees will discover Ontario export programs used by Workhaus residents and mingle with one another while enjoying snacks and refreshments.

Attendees will receive up-to- date information on legal and immigration issues when crossing the border, and be able to plan your year ahead benefiting from support from the Ontario Government.

Katrina Robson, Senior Manager, US Corporate Tax Services Practice, BDO

Katrina is a focused and dedicated US trained tax lawyer whose strengths lie in devising and formulating creative and effective solutions for her clients. Katrina assists clients in a wide range of industries, including manufacturing, professional services, technology, healthcare, private equity and real estate. As part of her practice, Katrina provides SALT advice - both state corporate income and sales tax - to Canadian businesses with US operations and to their US subsidiaries. Katrina has extensive experience advising on the context of various complex state and local tax issues regarding income tax, franchise tax, sales and use tax. She also helps clients with advice on US inbound transactions, multinational reorganization, cross-border transactions, sales tax automation, nexus study, debt push down, unitary and instant unitary analysis, as well as US permanent establishments. Most recently, Katrina co-authored the US Corporate Tax chapter of the CPA Canada's Tax Risk Management Guide.

Harry Chana, CPA, CA Partner, BDO

Harry is BDO's National International Tax Practice Leader, as well as BDO's National Tax Technology leader, with over 15 years of experience on various international tax issues impacting public, multi-national and private enterprises. In his previous and current roles, he has spent a considerable amount of time dealing with a wide variety of clients in the technology, distribution, manufacturing and real estate industries. Harry has also assisted clients in the areas of corporate and personal tax planning, inbound and outbound structuring, cross-border tax planning, and partnership structures. He is a frequent speaker at various industry events, as well as several BDO client events, on a wide range of tax topics.

Erin Farrell, Partner, U.S. Attorney, Guberman Garson LLP

Erin Farrell practices exclusively in the area of immigration law. Erin joined the firm after seven years as in-house immigration counsel with Microsoft Corporation where she developed expertise in establishing, maintaining and improving corporate immigration policies and procedures. Prior to her work in-house, Erin was in private practice where she worked with a wide range of clients and industries including Fortune 500 pharmaceutical, e-commerce, healthcare systems as well as research institutions and universities.

VXG

VXG offers a video platform for streaming, processing, and recording live video. In January 2018, VXG joined the Ontario MIT trade mission to CES in Las Vegas.

  • The Business Engagement Branch. Krystyn Sobolewski manages the New Exporters to Border States (NEBS) program.
  • The Export Services Branch provides consulting services, organizes matchmaking sessions with foreign buyers, co-delivers export funding programs, and leads trade missions to key markets around the world. Mauricio Ospina is in charge of helping Ontario tech firms export to the USA.
