Event description

Description

Wonder what's blooming on the old horse pasture at Woodlawn Pope-Leighey? On three days this growing season, Arcadia Farmer Katherine Collins will brush the dirt from her gloves and park the tractor to give a group tour of Dogue Farm, once part of George Washington's Mount Vernon, and the site of his early forays into sustainable agricultural practices. She will discuss how she took a barren field and turned it into an off-the-grid, verdant vegetable farm. Last year Katherine produced 82,000 servings of nutritious fresh food for Arcadia's Mobile Market, which brings high-quality, affordable farmers market fare straight to food deserts. Katherine will talk about Arcadia's mission, the inspiring history of the farmland we are on, and her sustainable farming practices. She will answer your questions about what Arcadia does, grows, and teaches. Bring a refillable water bottle, a sunhat, and wear flat shoes. The tour is free, but we welcome your donation, which will be used to continue to develop the farm.
