Event description

Description

AMC Bay Street, The E'ville Eye and City Council Candidate John Bauters are teaming up for an exclusive screening of the heralded documentary Dogtown Redemption.

Shot over seven years, Dogtown Redemption is not only the intimate story of street recyclers in West Oakland but a journey through a landscape of love and loss, devotion and addiction, prejudice and poverty. The film humanizes the lives of people experiencing homelessness while providing context for the challenges and trials faced by people living in dire poverty.

The documentary crosses the border into Emeryville as it tells the story of Hayok "Miss Kay". Kay tragically died after being assaulted in front of CVS on San Pablo Avenue in June 2015.

Read more about the film and watch the trailer at dogtownredemption.com

Director Amir Soltani will be on hand to introduce the film, field questions from audience members and reflect on the life of Miss Kay.

A limited amount of tickets are being made available to The E'ville Eye contributors and supporters of John Bauters' campaign for City Council and are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Theater space is being graciously donated by AMC Bay Street. Screening Fees are being paid for by The local campaign for John Bauters for Emeryville City Council (FPPC #1380397) and The E’ville Eye has picked up the Director’s stipend.
