About this Event

Books of Wonder is excited to host a picture book event: DOG DAYS OF SUMMER. Please join us on Sunday, July 21st at our 84th Street Store to celebrate four amazing picture books about dogs!

Three authors will take the stage alongside dogs from the New York Therapy Animals R.E.A.D.® program in this special Books of Wonder event. Program attendees will enjoy picture books and learn to how to read to the dogs in their life! Help us welcome author/ illustrator LISA PAPP for Madeline Finn and the Shelter Dog and Madeline Finn and the Library Dog, author JILL MANGEL WEISFELD for Riley the Retriever Wants a New Job, and author LYNDA GRAHAM-BARBER for Cookie’s Fortune.

LISA PAPP will present her main character Madeline Finn, a girl whose love for dogs leads her to mobilize her community to assist shelter dogs in Madeline Finn and the Shelter Dogs. In, Madeline Finn and the Library Dog, Madeline meets Bonnie, a library dog. Madeline doesn’t like to read, but she finds out she’s not afraid of making mistakes when she reads to Bonnie.

From therapy dog, to show dog, to fire dog…Riley the Retriever learns about all the jobs he might have in Riley the Retriever Wants a New Job, the picture book by JILL MANGEL WEISFELD.

In Cookie’s Fortune, LYNDA GRAHAM-BARBER follows a stray named Cookie from the streets, to the shelter, to a new home. The story unfolds in lyrical text against a watercolor backdrop of urban streets.
