Documentation Wars: Strategic Defense Against Pediatric Therapy Denials

** 6 PT, OT, & SLP CEUs **

In todays economic climate, children challenged with disabilities and developmental delays are at risk of losing access to critical rehab services. Occupational, Physical, and Speech Therapy intervention can make the difference between a life of dependency or one of empowering independence. Each childs quality of life and sometimes even the length of life hangs in the balance.

Therapists are consistently asked to give more, document generously and advocate for the patients they serve. This highly interactive course provides the clinician with compulsory insights and the related skills to more effectively meet these tasking demands.



Objectives:

Part 1 - 9:00 am - 12:15 pm

  1. Participant will be able to discuss threats to pediatric therapy in todays economic climate.

  2. Participant will identify key changes in payer demands and the impact on authorizations for pediatric therapy.

  3. Participant will be able to define clinical integrity in evaluation, treatment and management of clinical care for the best outcomes

  4. The participant will be able to discuss the 8 concepts of the International Classification of Function, Disabilities and Health model and how to apply this biopsychosocial model to sound clinical reasoning.

Part 2 - 1:15 pm - 4:30 pm

  1. Participant will compose participation based goals to address 5 different functional limitations.

  2. Participant will create personal job aids to support easier composition of objective treatment notes that communicate medical necessity and protect claims for reimbursement.

  3. Participant will be able identify strategies to help to avoid denials and when necessary avoid denials.

  4. Participant will be able identify key aspects of the appeal process that help protect the patient’s right to care.
