Description

Docs & Books is a new film and book series hosted by Black Lounge Film Series. In partnership with the Miami Dade Public Library System, this new program will screen non-fiction films that explore the African Diaspora. Paired with a book, each documentary captures the lives of extraordinary people that takes audiences on a journey of hope, and the books go even deeper providing a thicker layer of its contextual perspective.

The purpose of this new series is to support our public libraries, get people reading and loving documentary films. Learning through documentaries and books, this program is free and open to the public.

On Friday, March 22th, Black Lounge Films presents its 2nd edition of this program with an amazing documentary MAMA AFRICA: MIRIAM MAKEBA!. Paring the film with a book, we have chosen "Makeba : My Story " by by and .

MAMA AFRICA: MIRIAM MAKEBA serves as a powerful introduction to a new generation of Americans to Miriam Makeba, South African singer and anti-apartheid activist, the voice and the hope of Africa.
