Event description
In this info session, we ask, “What is stopping us from forming relationships across societal barriers and how can we overcome them?”

About this Event

Do For One is a relationship-building program that brings isolated people into greater community life. We selectively match one person with developmental disabilities (‘partner’) with another person who enjoys a more socially included life (‘advocate’).

Voluntary advocates are then supported as they strive to understand, represent, and respond to the interests of their partner.

What to expect at the session

Personal and freely-given relationships are vital for human flourishing, and yet, many people with developmental disabilities and other disenfranchised groups face profound social exclusion. In this info session, we ask, “What is stopping us from forming relationships across societal barriers and how can we overcome them?”

  • You will hear stories about Do For One relationships.
  • You’ll have the opportunity to meet featured guests from our podcast, and others from the Do For One network who share their first-hand perspectives on this topic.
  • The workshop will be led by Andrew Oliver, founder of Do For One, Jane Yoon, Do For One Community Coordinator, and our emcee for the evening, Devon Ray Hillary.
  • You’ll learn that there are a number of ways for you to support our mission and get involved. Anyone who is interested in the lives of marginalized people are welcome.
