Event description
Participatory workshops on the future of two key aspects in the digital media industry: video games and labour practices.

About this Event

Media Policy is increasingly understood as a crucial sphere of influence within the field of media and cultural production. To provide vital context and perspective on how the power of media policy is shaping our digital future, DM@X-tra is hosting a half-day graduate workshop and critical discussion of topics such as: defining new sectors and consumer engagement in gaming; trends in digital media labour practices; and how government policy can match the new models that aren't just emerging but taking root and growing.

Organized by DM@X academic partners and prior attendees, the event will be held in roundtable format to facilitate collaborative workshops, short presentations, and discussions that are reported out both during and after the event through social media. One of the main goals of DM@Xtra is interaction among students and recent alumni from different work backgrounds and academic perspectives. A wine and cheese reception closes the event.

Two collaborative roundtable workshops (all attendees participate in the roundtables):

Topic #1 “Designing the Future of Work in the New Film and TV Industries”

Topic #2 “Playing with Power in the Canadian Game Industry”
