The Kaiser Permanente Vacaville Medical Center’s Department of Trauma is excited to offer Disaster Management & Emergency Preparedness (DMEP), a live, 1-day course that is both didactic and interactive. DMEP addresses the core competencies of disaster and mass casualty management according to the American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma (ACS-COT) and focuses on the hospital-based healthcare provider perspective. This ONLINE course will be delivered through the the Microsoft Teams platform.

Major topics covered include principles for preparation and response, planning, mass casualty triage, incident command, pathophysiology/injury patterns, and special populations considerations. Interactive group exercises based on illustrative scenarios are also included to help reinforce the course information. All students are required to complete a pre/post-course knowledge assessment test to receive course credit.
Course Objectives:
1.Recognize the surgical problems, injury patterns, and issues that may result from disasters.
2.Discuss the role that surgeons and other acute care providers can play in planning for a response to mass casualty incidents and disasters.
3.Explain the terms and concepts of incident command.
4.Describe the principles and challenges of disaster triage.
5.Identify the civilian and military assets available for support
Confirmation/Cancellation/Refund Policy- Student registration slots will be released if payment not received within 60 minutes after completing the eventbrite ticket registration. Separate payment instructions will follow at completion of registration. Student slot confirmation will be granted upon receipt of BOTH the registration and paid course fees. Any cancellations received less than 30 days prior to the course date will not be refunded.
Accreditation-The American College of Surgeons is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
CME Credit-The American College of Surgeons designates this educational activity for a maximum of 7.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. *Category 1 Continuing Medical Education credit is acceptable for meeting RN continuing education requirements.
