Invites you to a FREE community event with

DJ Jaffe, author and activist

* Are you concerned that over 390,000 people with mental illness across the nation are in prison?

* Did you know that 140,000 patients with mental illness are discharged annually from hospitals to homeless shelters?

* Do you believe caring families should be given information about their loved ones living with serious mental illness?

If you believe our community can do better to care for the seriously mentally ill, please join us for a lively community discussion on November 1, 2018.

DJ Jaffe - A Change Maker

DJ Jaffe is an unwavering champion for mental health reform, and has cared for a loved one with a severe mental illness for over 30 years.

Jaffe founded and is Executive Director of the non-partisan Mental Illness Policy Org., which creates detailed policy analysis for legislators, the media, and advocates. Jaffe was a driving force behind New York’s Kendra’s Law (involuntary, court-ordered treatment) and several of his ideas were included in the 21st Century Cures Act recently passed by Congress.

In his book and lectures, Jaffe lays out a road map to spend less on mental "health" and more on mental "illness"--replacing mission creep with mission control and returning the mental health system to a focus on the most seriously ill.

Jaffe has written opinion pieces for many publications including: The New York Times, Washington Post, Wall Street Journal, National Review, and City Journal. He is an adjunct professor at the Manhattan Institute and former board member of Treatment Advocacy Center and NAMI.

About His Book

Insane Consequences proposes smart, compassionate, affordable, and sweeping reforms designed to send the most seriously ill to the head of the line for services rather than to jails, shelters, prisons, and morgues. He challenges us to consider that, “It is not money that is lacking; it's leadership.”

A recent Amazon review states: "This book is a must-read for anyone who works in the mental health industry or cares about the mentally ill, violence, homelessness, incarceration, or public policy." In other words--everyone! It has been praised by multiple luminaries including E. Fuller Torrey, Pete Earley, Glenn Close, and Sheriff Tom Dart.
