Event description

Description

Harness the power of the sun yourself! Join GRID Alternatives Bay Area for a DIY Solar Projects workshop!

On Thursday, November 15th, come to learn how to create your own solar PV powered small projects like cell phone chargers, radios etc. As part of GRID Bay Area's Third Thursday events and workshop series, there will be an opportunity to get hands-on while learning the wiring, safety, and materials needed for your own projects.

Workshop facilitator: Matthew Kroll

Matthew Kroll is a Solar PV System Designer for GRID Bay Area team. He holds a B.A. in Business Management Economics with a Minor in Electronic Music from University of California, Santa Cruz. Matt is also an avid musician and DJ (under the moniker Matt The Katt) and got his first hands-on experience with PV building a portable off-grid solar generator designed to power DJ and sound equipment in remote areas. He now brings a similar sound system to various local environmental events.

FAQs

What is GRID Alternatives?

GRID Alternatives (GRID) is the nation’s largest nonprofit solar installer, serving exclusively low-income communities. GRID also partners with job training organizations and individual job seekers to provide training in installing solar both in a real-world setting and in the classroom under the leadership of knowledgeable GRID staff.

What are Thursday Nights like at GRID Alternatives Bay Area?

Starting in January of this year we've started offering Workshops and Discussions on the same nights that we host Volunteer Orientations. This allows for more of our participants to get to network and meet each other, as well as open up additional ways to get involved with GRID. If you'd like to participate in a real-world GRID Alternatives Solar PV installation, attending an Orientation is a requirement.

Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?
