BIOGRAPHY

Evangelos Spanos is one of the brightest and most promising pianists of the current generation of international performers in the U.S. During his time at the University of Kansas (D.M.A. 2011), where he studied with Sequeira Costa, Evangelos was continuously performing, teaching and promoting classical music and piano music of Greek composers. Originally from Larissa, Greece, Evangelos has performed across the US, Greece and the Czech Republic. He has also appeared on Greek National TV for the show Technopolis and several local programs.

One of his most satisfying collaborations was with Bill Bowers, a world-famous mime and student of Marcel Marceau. Evangelos has also performed with his colleague, Daniel Cunha, in a piano duo throughout the U.S. and, soon, in Europe. The piano duo has performed at the University of California at Riverside, Encuentros/Encounters 2015 Center for Iberian and Latin American Music, where they will be returning for the third time in April of 2020. The versatile Dr. Spanos concentrates on classical music, but is at home in jazz and rock, working with Tim Ries of the Rolling Stones Project.

Evangelos has served/serves as music staff of the Kansas City Ballet, the University of Missouri Kansas City Conservatory, and the Lyric Opera, and has performed for numerous opera productions at the University of Kansas as well as accompanying master classes for Martha Graham, Merce Cunningham, Dance Theatre of Harlem and Mark Morris Dance Company. Most recently, he performed for productions at the Music Hall (Book of Mormon), Starlight Theatre (Hairspray, Grease, Something Rotten, and Little Mermaid), and also played for Evanescence and Zelda concerts. In addition to his extensive performing career, Evangelos composes original music for media and dance projects. Parallel Lives, an electronic composition, has been featured by the Kansas City Ballet and the Deeply Rooted Dance company in Chicago in choreography by Gary Abbot. Evangelos has also recorded with the University of Kansas Wind Ensemble (Naxos Label) and the Creede Repertory Theater.

Dr. Spanos holds degrees from the University of Kansas (Doctorate of Musical Arts-2011, with honors and Master of Music-2005), Music Conservatory of Volos, Greece (Piano Diploma-2002, with the highest distinction), and Music Conservatory of Larissa, Greece (Degree in Music Harmony-1998).
