Event description

Description

There are four states of mind that are exquisitely joyful - loving-kindness, compassion, sympathetic joy, and equanimity. These are called the four Divine Mindstates (Brahma-Vihāra), and developing them naturally leads to happiness. Bhante Vimalaraṁsi, a Buddhist monk for over 30 years, will explain how we can perfect these four divine mindstates and experience the blessings they bring.

All levels of practitioners are welcome.

ABOUT THE TEACHER:

Bhante Vimalaramsi has been practicing Buddhist meditation since 1974, and was ordained in Northern Thailand in 1986. He has studied under several of the most important monks in Asia, including Sayadaw U Pandita, Mahāsi Sayadaw, Mingun Sayadaw, Ven. K. Sri Dhammananda, Ven. Puṇṇaji, and Ajahn Buddhadāsa. He spent the first 20 years of his practice using the Mahāsi method, but eventually reached a point where he felt that although he had completed all sixteen stages of that system, his practice was still not complete. Under the guidance of Ven. K. Sri Dhammananda and Bhante Puṇṇāji, he turned his attention to Sutta study and intensive practice of Loving-Kindness meditation. This shift in focus led to a radical development in his practice, which formed the basis of his current method of practice and teaching - insight meditation based on Brahma-Vihāra practice. In 2004 he established Dhamma Sukha, a monastery and retreat center in Missouri, where he is the resident teacher.
