Program Description: The need for understanding the social/cultural context of the client is critical to formulating an accurate diagnosis and designing effective intervention. This training is intended to heighten the mental health clinician's awareness of an individual’s unique social and cultural aspects and increase their ability to use this information in the formulation of a diagnosis and treatment plan for intervention.
Training Goal: To share information and stimulate discussion that increases awareness of the role of culture, ethnicity, identity, social context, and migration as well as, individual experiences and perceptions of the illness when determining a diagnostic formulation and creating a plan for intervention.
Define cultural formulation and its relationship to mental health intervention
Identify the components of a thorough cultural formulation
Explain the importance of self-awareness and self-understanding for successful practice with diverse populations.
