Sharon Cini is the City of Scottsdale’s diversity manager in the City Manager’s office. She is originally from Winslow, Arizona and is Hopi and Navajo. She and her family currently live in Scottsdale. She holds a Master’s degree in Public Administration and an undergraduate degree from Arizona State University in American Indian Studies (emphasis in legal policy and community/economic development). In 2007, she completed the Morris K. Udall Congressional Native American internship in Washington, D.C. and worked with U.S. Senate Committee on Indian Affairs.
Sharon is a U.S. Navy veteran and a former Ms. Indian Phoenix, the two experiences that empowered her to see beyond limitations. Her experiences and influence from her mom shaped her career in a variety of health care roles after she returned back to Arizona. Over the past 17 years, Sharon has done crisis intervention work for the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community, cross-cultural training and consultations involving traditional Indian medicine at Phoenix Children’s Hospital, business development for Charter inpatient psychiatric facilities, worked for behavioral health organizations in case management and before she changed careers in 2012, Sharon had an eight-year career as a Licensed Independent Substance Abuse counselor working with youth and families on the Gila River Indian Community. In recent years and with the change in careers from behavioral health to administration, she worked for Gila River Health Care for 2 years as an Employee Relations Specialist and now works for the city.
