Diversity Programme: Governance Training

About this event
Following two editions of the Governance and Board Membership programme resulting in providing support to 15 training participants, including 12 new ethnically diverse board members joining or founding arts and culture organisations across Edinburgh, we have now launched the third edition of the programme inviting aspiring or existing board members of ethnically diverse backgrounds.
This online training programme delivered by Catriona Reynolds, Arts & Business Scotland, will run over 3 consecutive Tuesday (5-7PM) commencing on 29 November 2022. It will focus on the knowledge and understanding required to feel confident being a board member, joining an organisation as a new board member, and/or setting up your own organisation as a director / trustee.
The online sessions will cover the following:
- Typical business structures in the cultural sector
• Duties of charitable trustees/board members
– The different roles and responsibilities of board members and staff
• Board and staff relationships
The role you can play to support the organisation
• Meeting management and decision making
• Advocacy and fundraising
– Planning and finance
• Your role in strategic planning
Each session will be delivered with a blend of slide presentation, practical exercises done in smaller groups, and whole group feedback and discussion. A reading list (all material available online) will be provided in advance before each session to provide participants with background information to support the relevant topic. Copies of any exercises will also be sent in advance so that participants can read them in advance and print them where possible.
Ethnically diverse artists and creatives are eligible to participate. Please note that by registering you commit to attending all three sessions.
When registering, please specify if you are:
a) a board member of an arts and culture organisation,
b) interested in joining a board of an arts and culture organisation through a facilitated matching programme under the auspices of the Diversity Programme,
c) planning to register / have registered an arts and culture organisation as its director/trustee.
