Description

“Diversity in Israel,” talk by Nathan Guttman, DC correspondent for the Israel Broadcasting Corporation, Opens the Embracing Our Differences (Shonim b’Yachad) Art Show

The Israel Affairs Committee will open an exhibit of winning Israeli art work, in the form of posters, on the subject of tolerance, equality, accepting the other, and valuing a shared society. Nathan Guttman will discuss the state of diversity in Israel.

Jewish and Arab elementary and secondary school youths, as well as children of foreign workers in the greater Tel Aviv area, participated in the contest which was judged by a professional public committee. The blown-up posters were displayed at Jaffa port for six months and were seen by thousands of visitors. Upon attending the exhibition opening two years ago, Mrs. Nechama Rivlin, wife of Israel’s president, said “This exhibition can teach us all a lesson about humanity, tolerance and inclusion.”

The Daniel Centers for Progressive Judaism, led by Rabbi Meir Azari, organized the program, which is now beginning its fourth year. Temple Sinai is one of the program supporters. The winning posters will be shown in other US cities.

Nathan Guttman, correspondent for the Israel Broadcasting Corporation, was previously the Washington bureau chief for the Forward, Haaretz and The Jerusalem Post. He was chief editor of Channel 1 TV evening news. Born in Canada and growing up in Israel, he is a graduate of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.

Light refreshments will be served.
