Speaker Bios:

Miriam Dashtipour is a Multicultural Leadership Scholar. She holds a B.A. in Global Studies with an emphasis in Language & Culture and a double minor in History and Middle Eastern Studies. Miriam studied at Boğaziçi Üniversitesi, a top ranked university in Turkey. During her time in Istanbul, Miriam developed Kurdish & Turkish language and cultural knowledge; which is complementary to her 3 years of Arabic language courses and Farsi language skills-which she obtained through her Iranian-American background and traveling experiences in Iran. Miriam’s degree combination provided her with knowledge and understanding from a global perspective and enabled her to observe historical patterns, critically think and write about political complexities, and learn deeply about human experience and cultural components. With her educational background she excels in communicating cross-culturally and understanding policies and systems and how they affect different people.

Miriam is currently the Program Coordinator for Cultural Diversity Resources. This allows her to work closely with diverse underserved populations. She locates community resources, creates programming around needs, facilitates diversity trainings, and provides strategies to overcome barriers. Miriam coordinates the following programs: Interpreting, Job Development, Self-Sufficiency, Family & Youth Engagement and, Language Compass Program. Miriam previously served on the Science Museum of MN’s RACE Exhibit Advisory Council and is currently serving on Fargo-Cass VOAD Emergency Preparedness Committee. Miriam plans on getting her masters in Global Health and to make an impact in positive health outcomes globally.

Cassie Wiste came to the organization with experience in education, business development, and a passion for design. She leads as the Community Resource Manager at Cultural Diversity Resources and serves its community partners to develop and implement Public Relation strategies to increase awareness and understanding of its programs and activities. She collaborates and coordinates with community partners to develop inclusive and multicultural communication strategies, inform and educate ethnically diverse groups and the community-at-large about the established vision, mission and goals to reduce racial, social and economic disparities.

Cassie also assists with the planning and marketing of organizational and special events, develops, designs and produces publicity material as needed, and provides ongoing website development and social media management. She is on the NDSU Advisory Committee, a trustee for The Awesome Foundation, a member of the YWCA Racial Justice Committee, and Board Chair of United Hearts for Haiti. In her free time, she raises her 4 children Rilee, Asher, Haakon and Garrett with her husband Tim. They enjoy outdoor activities such as summers at the lake, skiing in the winter, remodeling projects with family and friends, and serving the community through service projects.
